Lake ice is a good climate indicator and interesting parameter in hydrological modelling, weather prediction and, after integration over time, estimating dates for ice phenology events (ice break-up, ice-off).Lake Ice Extent products classify ice for freshwater bodies, per cloud-free pixel, into (i) fully snow covered ice, (ii) partially snow covered ice/clear ice and (iii) open water.
