The "calibration" of the retrieval is preserves independence from in situ observations. Context-specific uncertainty estimates are provided with each SST datum. In climate assessment activities, the SST CCI products have been found to be suitable for purposes such as evaluation of the mean state and (co)variability of coupled climate models.
